Privacy Policy

Your privacy, in plain language.

I Know Ball is a basketball-education app used by students, parents, and coaches - including children under 13. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you and your family have. Effective August 24, 2026.

The short version

  • We collect what we need to run the app: an email, a display name, a year of birth, and learning progress. That's it.
  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not show third-party or behavioral advertising. Ever.
  • Players under 13 cannot use the app until a parent or guardian approves the account by email.
  • You can see, correct, or delete your (or your child's) data at any time.
  • Questions? Email hello@ikball.app.

1. Who we are

I Know Ball (“I Know Ball,” “we,” “us”) operates this basketball-education platform. If you have any question about this policy or your information, contact us at hello@ikball.app.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what the app needs to work. Specifically:

Information you give us

  • Account details: your email address, a password (stored only in hashed form - we never see or store your actual password), a display name you choose, and your year of birth (used only to apply the correct age protections).
  • For players under 13: a parent or guardian's email address, so we can request their approval before the account is used.
  • Starting level and role: the skill level you pick at sign-up and whether you're a player, parent, coach, or school.
  • Messages you send us through the contact form (your name, email, the topic, and your message).

Information created as you use the app

  • Learning progress: which lessons you've completed, your best quiz scores, your IQ score, day streak, weekly-challenge answers, badges earned, the positions you place on the court in the hands-on drills, and any optional confidence ratings or reflections you save.
  • Team and coaching data (if you use a team): your team membership, join codes, and assignments a coach gives you.
  • Parent-child links (if a parent is connected to a player): the connection between the two accounts, so a parent can see read-only progress.

Information collected automatically

  • A sign-in session cookie (secure and HTTP-only) so you stay logged in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • Your IP address, used briefly to prevent abuse (rate limiting) and - for a parent's consent decision - to record that the decision was made. We do not use it to build advertising profiles.
  • Basic in-app activity (for example, that a lesson was passed or a drill was completed), stored on our own servers to run and improve the app. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

Payments

If you buy a plan, payment is handled by Stripe, our payment processor. We do not receive or store your full card number - Stripe does. We keep only your plan status (for example, active or canceled) so we know what your account includes.

3. How we use information

  • To create and run your account and save your learning progress.
  • To show a player, parent, or coach the right screens and the right data.
  • To process payments and manage subscriptions (through Stripe).
  • To request and record a parent's consent for a child under 13.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
  • To respond when you contact us.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or to build advertising profiles.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

I Know Ball is designed for K-12 players, and we know that includes children under 13. We follow the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Here is exactly how children's accounts work:

  • Age is checked up front. Everyone enters a year of birth when signing up. This is a neutral age gate - we don't encourage a child to change it.
  • A child's account is held until a parent approves it. If the year of birth indicates a child is under 13, the account is created but kept inactive and unusable. We email the parent or guardian a link to review what we collect and approve or decline.
  • We collect only what's needed. For a child, that is a display name and learning progress (lessons, quiz scores, and drill activity). We do not ask a child for a phone number, a home address, or any information we don't need to run the app, and we never require more than that to participate.
  • No behavioral advertising. We do not show third-party ads, we do not include advertising or tracking software in the app, and any lesson videos are ad-free.
  • Parents are in control. A parent or guardian can review the information we've collected from their child, ask us to delete it, and refuse to allow any further collection - see the next section.

If we learn that we've collected personal information from a child under 13 without the required parental consent, we will delete it promptly.

5. Parental rights and how to exercise them

If you are a parent or guardian of a child using I Know Ball, you have the right to:

  • Review the personal information we have collected from your child.
  • Ask us to delete your child's account and information.
  • Refuse to allow further collection or use of your child's information.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time.

A connected parent account can view a child's progress directly in the app, and a logged-in account can delete itself from the Profile screen. To make any of these requests, or if you need help, email us at hello@ikball.app and we will verify your request and respond promptly.

6. How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share information only with the service providers we need to run I Know Ball, and only for that purpose:

  • Stripe - to process payments and manage subscriptions.
  • Our email provider - to send account and consent emails (for example, the parental-approval link).
  • Video hosting - some lessons play video that is hosted on a video platform and embedded in the app; playback is ad-free.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or security of our users or the service.

7. Cookies and tracking

We use a single secure sign-in cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, or third-party analytics that follow you around the web.

8. How we protect information

  • All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
  • Passwords are stored only as secure hashes, never in plain text.
  • Every account's data is isolated at the database level, so one user cannot read another's information.
  • Sign-in sessions use secure, HTTP-only cookies.

No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and we limit what we collect in the first place.

9. How long we keep information, and deletion

We keep account and progress information for as long as the account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen, or by emailing us - deleting an account permanently removes its personal information and learning progress from our systems. A parent can request deletion of a child's account the same way.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information. You can exercise these by contacting us at hello@ikball.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.

11. Schools and coaches

When a school or coach sets up a team, coaches see student learning progress to support instruction. Coaches see progress and scores, never a student's quiz answer keys, and school and coach access is limited to their own team. Schools using I Know Ball as part of instruction are responsible for any consents their setting requires.

12. Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to this policy, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of I Know Ball after an update means you accept the revised policy.

13. Contact us

For any privacy question, or to exercise a right described above, email hello@ikball.app.
